Return to Chapter 13
Vampire (Chapter 14--Epilog)
by Leslie Schmidt
Carmine and Evascka (I call Jenny by her real name now, it’s much more…fitting) taught me what I needed to know over the next three weeks. The crematorium got a real work out, feeding three of us, and I think we put a sizable hole in the membership of one particular Newark gang.
Most recently Evascka and I have been hanging out in Mexico and Central America. The drug wars have provided a long list of people the world can do without and a few more bodies dumped on the streets makes no difference.
My only real regret was that I had to give up Arbutus. I could keep him while we stayed in New Jersey but as we started to travel more I began to feel it was cruel to board him all the time. I eventually found a loving family for him in upstate New York, near Elvira. He has a big back yard to run in with a friendly Springer Spaniel as a playmate. I occasionally visit him in the night.
